New Entrants
Room 4 Welcome to the Room 4 New Entrants-Year 1 class. We are a small but very busy class with lots of fun learning going on every day. In the morning we talk and write about all sorts of exciting things we know, have done, or are learning about. We love doing science experiments and investigations or going on trips each term and writing about these too. We use the computers to publish some of our work, and online programs to help us practise our reading, writing and math skills too. Every child in the New Entrant’s class has an awesome senior buddy. They come and practises reading with us after morning tea. In class we read big books and poems altogether, and then we read our own little books with Mrs Hall. We get to take these books home to read to Mum and Dad. We know lots of practice helps us learn. After lunch we have delicious cold milk to cool down while we listen to a story. Then it’s maths time. We have loads of cool math and literacy learning games and activities we can play while we are not in a group with Mrs Hall. In the summer we get to go swimming in the afternoon. When it is cooler we do other fun exercise like Jump Jam, skipping, athletics, gymnastics, cross country in the paddock and all sorts of ball games. Mums and Dads are welcome in Room 4 and it is always great to have extra adults helping us with our learning. We love having new students visiting before they start so they can get to know us and see all the fun learning we do. If you are looking for a cool school to learn at you should come and visit us too! |
Year 2 and 3
Room 3
Hello from Room 3.
Room 3 has a group of 20 year 2 and year 3 students.
We are lucky as we have a nice big classroom to learn in.
Term 1 has been incredibly busy for us. Our main focus has been the beach, with a learning experience at the beach earlier in the term. We have learnt lots about the plants and animals that live there, written some awesome stories, poems and reports about the beach, and created art work associated with the beach.
Other highlights for us this term has been swimming and our school swimming sports, our turn at running the weekly school assembly, and learning about our school.
We have lots to look forward to in Term 2. Our themes for the term are Road Safety, Kia Kaha and Wind farms. We will be working on our painting skills in Art. In Physical Education we will be practising our large ball skills and taking part in Jump Jam. We will also continue to work hard in Reading, Writing and Maths.
We love learning in Room 3 and we all work hard to make progress every day.

Year 4 and 5
Room 2.
Room 2 is an awesome little class of 15 very hard working and motivated students.
We comprise of four Year 3 students, six Year 4 students and five year 5 students. This may change as the year goes on and more children are enrolled at Paterangi School. For now we are enjoying our small numbers, the opportunity to have more time with the teacher, and have a really quiet and settled working environment.
We start off each day with maths, (one of Mrs Reihanas favourite subjects to teach.) We do our basic facts warm ups each day, then, move onto maths concept and strategy teaching and learning.
Next we have Literacy, which involves Spelling, Writing, Guided Reading and Handwriting.
After lunch we are involved in Topic subjects. (Science, Social Studies, Health etc.) Throughout the week we have Phys-ed, Art, Music and Te Reo.
It is a full week abundant with teaching and learning opportunities.
Each term an EOTC trip is organised to enhance a current topic, or to give students a new and exciting learning experience. This term it was a visit to the beach to learn about the rocky shore. Next term we will visit the Science Road show caravan in Hamilton. Later in the year we are hoping to have a musical experience and we will have a trip to the museum at some stage. In the third term we all will be involved in a school arts festival.
There are also many and varied sporting events for the students to get involved in throughout the year.
Room 2 has a whole lot of fun and a whole lot of learning in store for 2017
